What is the Difference between Modern Art and Contemporary Art?
Modern and contemporary, although the two words depict the same meaning but when it comes to modern and contemporary art, both are quite different in terms of time period, style and overall concern. Hence, you should not get confused with these two terms.
Modern art embraces the artistic works produced between 1860's to 1970's, and refers to the style and philosophy of art during that time period. During this period, the modern artists threw aside the past traditions to experiment with the modern ways of seeing and with innovative ideas about the nature of materials and art functions.
